Hey Nerds, there's a few days left to 2018 and it's time to think of those "new years resolutions".
There are the typical resolutions we all make, like, lose weight and get fit, etc. And those are on my list too... I start every year off strong with exercising from January to May, then things fall apart for a few months, and then September to November I try again. I feel like I never make major progress and by December, I'm back to where I was last December.
BUT, this post about resolutions is going to go beyond the "get fit" resolution, let's explore...
Reading
One resolution I started for 2018 which I want to continue is reading. Reading books, mostly fiction, and, from where?... gasp... the library! For a long time I was buying books at $10-$15 each and they only get read once. Last year I borrowed all the books from the library, unless they were given to me, or I reread something I owned. I really enjoyed spending time during lunches reading, or late at night before bed drinking a cup of tea (wow, I sound "old and boring"). Once in a while, I would even have 10 minutes of quiet time in the morning to read. I probably read 9-10 books this past year (I know that's not a lot by most standards); two of the books were by Ann Tatlock and I'm going to start off my 2019 with another book of hers.
Backing off of Technology
Ok, this one I think will be really difficult to follow thru. I want to spend less time on YouTube and Facebook. I don't use too many other social media sites, so they're not an issue. A few years ago someone posted something of Facebook that bothered me, and so I wanted to back off of Facebook... and I started watching YouTube, and found my now favorite channels to watch. I replaced one website addiction with another. Well, hopefully my desire to read will leave less time to watch YouTube.
Reconnecting with Friends
I have a few friends that I would like to reconnect with after losing touch over the years. I've already got in contact with one of them and plan to hopefully get together in January or February.
Sleep
Try to sleep more... on a weekday I like to wake up at 5:15am... but I also like to watch YouTube and scroll thru Facebook until 11:30... so something's gotta give. It comes back down to backing off of technology, and making sleep a priority.
Direction of Life as a Nerdy Girl?
Now... this blog... what am I going to do with it, and what kind of content will I come up with? It's hard to come up with content, because, I don't do that much that you would find interesting. I go to work, and take care of my family. People question how I have time to write a blog. I don't really. I write often late at night, or on my lunch break.
Also, I realize I'm late to the 'game'... people aren't really into reading content, including me. I would rather watch a video to get information. So that's something else to struggle with this blog and getting people to read it. A lot of my readers are my co-workers and Facebook friends.
I would like some feedback what you want to see?
Some content I have planned:
- Testing hacks
- Testing products
- Recipes
- Posts about music
- Making fun of myself in a flattering way.
- and.....
I would like to explore making some video content on YouTube
Being my own advocate
So, 2018 had some disappointing moments, and I came to realize that no one will know your potential or your accomplishments if you don't talk about them, or have others talk about them for you. This is hard for me because I'm rather quiet and don't like bringing attention to myself. I think I expected that people would hear through the grapevine, or be aware of things I'm accomplishing... not the case.
So, in the new year, I'm going to seek out opportunities for recognition and growth in my knowledge.
Health
I want to continue working on good health and pray for good health for my family. This past year has been difficult health wise for my mom, and, I pray/hope that 2019 is better for her. Also, I pray for continued good health for my children.
2019... continued health for everyone in your family is a great request
