Fall Inspired table decor from Dollarama

Hey Nerds,
So today I'm bringing you a 'decorating ideas' blog, and I'm not sure how it will be taken. Yes, this is using Dollarama items, but I think if you balance out what you're using from the dollar store with something timeless or more on the neutral side, you can make it work.  If you go to YouTube and search Dollarama/Dollar Tree hauls or decorating, you'll see I'm not making this up.  Let's get into it already.
I'm going to be showing you two ideas, one setting is for an adult's table, and one is for a kid's table.  I'm not hosting the actual Thanksgiving dinner next week (Canadian Thanksgiving), but I will be having family over for dinner one night.

I was at my local Dollarama and I started off with place mats. I  picked up these plaid patterned place mats in the colors red, orange, brown, and what I like to call "mossy green".  These were $2 each and what's great is that the other side is burgundy, so you can go with that option, and the burgundy side will take you right into the Christmas holiday season.

To go with the place mats, I decided to use napkins with a fall leaf motive, and set it on the place mat slightly off the edge to minimize the two patterns interfering with each other.  Now that I have place mats and napkins, I'm thinking about the table cloth.  I'm going to go with just a simple cream colored table cloth that I already have.  This is what I meant about finding balance, since I have a patterned place mat, I'm going to just stick with a classy tablecloth.  I would say if you do use the solid colored side of the place mat for your Thanksgiving table, then you could go with a patterned table cloth, or, a table cloth in a 'burnt orange' color; or just stick with cream.

Now to the decorations.  I picked up two of these glossy metalic orange pumpkins that are decorated with a sunflower, pine cone and leaves.  Additionally, I picked up a bag of loose fall leaves, and a mixed bag of pine cones and acorns.  I feel the pine cones and acorns will take the bright pumpkins down a notch.

Here's what the table looks like put together. I didn't go as far as to set the table with the table with dishes, glasses and utensils because I only did this for the blog to show you several days ahead of time.

Now on to the kids table... Again, I used a cream colored table cloth I already had.  I ended up going with the fall motif paper plates and cups, and the same napkins, all at Dollarama.  I'm using these taupe place mats I already had (also from Dollarama).  They're great because it's a wipe-able material and won't get stained.  For the kids table decorations I used a bag of acrylic leaves in fall colors spread out in the middle.  Here's how the kids table turned out.

Here's a breakdown of the items I bought:

  • Place mat - $2 X 6                        = $12.00
  • Pumpkin floral decor - $3.50 X 2 = $ 7.00
  • Pine cones and acorns mixed bag = $ 2.00
  • Napkins, pack of 14                      = $ 1.25
  • Paper Plates, pack of 8                  = $ 1.25
  • Acrylic leaves                                = $ 2.00
  • Loose fall leaves                            = $ 1.25
So in total I only spent $26.75 (plus tax) creating the look for the two tables.

Added bonus, I bought this fall themed garland for $4 and two fall "picks" for $1.25 each and decorated the mantle.  I added in a few leaves from the bag of loose leaves.

I hope you enjoyed that and inspired you to go into your dollar store with an open mind.
