September Bike Ride at Holiday Beach and Oven 360

Hey Nerds,
This was a post I had drafted in September, but then I had other posts to share with you.  However, I still wanted to come back and share the pictures.  In early September we went to Holiday Beach for a family bike ride.  I really like Holiday Beach for a few reasons:

  • It's close by... about a 1/2 hour drive for us
  • It's the right size.  It's not so big that you need several hours to explore.  This helps with the kids being able to bike the whole length of the park without becoming weary
  • There are nice trails
  • The boardwalk over the marsh/pond
  • There's a beach (although, I dislike sand) with proper bathrooms
  • The Hawk Tower provides a nice overview of the surrounding wetland and of Lake Erie
We drove over with our bikes in the van and then parked offsite from the park.  We rode our bikes in, visited the boardwalk, spent some time at the beach, then rode over to the Hawk Tower to get a view around.  Later we explored some trails near the beach.

I had my running shoes on the whole time, so when I sat down later at a picnic table, I felt pretty annoyed at the amount of sand in my shoes and between my toes.

After relaxing for a bit we started to head home and think about what we could have for dinner.  We decided to try out a restaurant that's been open for a while called Oven 360.  I had never been so it was a unique experience.  I expected to sit down at a table and have a waitress/waiter take our order, but instead you got in a line like at a fast food chain.  You picked the size of your pizza and the dough was stretched out in front of you.... very thin crust which I liked.  Then it's passed on to the next person in line who asks you for your toppings.  After that it goes in a round pizza oven (hence Oven 360) where you wait for it to cook.. it only takes 3 to 5 minutes to come out.  The pizza was good, but we needed a second one to fill all 4 of us.  I also ordered a small salad, which came in a baked "bread bowl".

Here's a few pics from Holiday Beach:
